Very special restaurant in Amsterdam

Very special restaurant in Amsterdam.

If you want to have dinner in a very special place, try the REM Eiland restaurant (REM Island Restaurant).

In the early sixties there was only one television channel in the Netherlands. The available air time was divided between six denominational broadcasters. Although permitting commercial television was being discussed since the fifties, the Dutch government did nothing about it. The only possibility was to broadcast from the sea, outside territorial waters.

Therefore, the REM island was build and it served it's purpose until 17 December 1964 and became a measuring station for the Dutch government. In 2006 it was taken to shore and renovated. In March 2011 the REM Eiland restaurant was opened in Amsterdam offering a spectacular view on the IJ (waterway on which Amsterdam was build) and part of the harbor.

A three course menu is € 28,50 only and reviews are promising.

See http://www.remeiland.com/ for more impressions. (unfortunately not in English).
